Frequently Asked Questions


 

We have recently heard of hybrid Woodlyn instruments.  Our equipment with other manufacturers’ parts on it- usually purchased from used equipment dealers. In that instance we are unable to assist with servicing as it is no longer a factory-spec Woodlyn instrument.

Please contact Woodlyn at 847.952.8330 and ask for your nearest repair technician. Some instruments you may wish to send into us directly, then a Return Authorization is required. All unknown packages will be refused.

 

Product: Chair

Q: My chair will not go up.
A: Make sure the top toggle on the foot control is leaning to the left.
Make sure the SL Arm lever is not stuck or activated.

Q: The chair will recline, but will not go up
A: Same as above

Q: The footrest is tilted upward and will not come down.
A: Press down on the horizontal bar on the patients left, this will release the lock.

 

Product: Stand

Q: Nothing electrically works.
A: Check the fuses.

Q: My Refractor arm is too short.
A: Check the positioning of the Chair and Stand.

 

Product: Slit Lamp

Q: The bulb blew.
A: Order a replacement bulb, make sure not to touch halogen bulbs (it will reduce bulb life).

Q: Visual difficulties using the microscope head.
A: Put the focusing rod in, open the slit and aperture all the way and adjust each eye independently.

NOTE: the scale is a reference, not a prescription value.

Now as you try smaller apertures, you should see one image.

Q: What bulb does my slit lamp take?
A: ALL HR slit lamps can accept the 45070. Some HR series had a red base adapter which uses a 450012. Only a few HR series had a red base and a blue bulb 450013. Very few HR series had a black base which uses a 45006.

SMM series with the bulb mounted on the side (bullet style with flange) is 45470.

SMM series with a brass disk and 2 prongs is a 45570.

 

Product: R-900

Q: The Calibration is off.
A: How old is prism? Replace if worn or max 1 year.
Check Tonometer with Calibration tool.
Check the SL Eyepiece for correct focus.
Check SL for Level.
If the unit is still off, send into Woodlyn for Recalibration.

 

Product: Keratometer

Q: The Calibration is off.
A: Check the eyepiece focus.
Check the unit with a Lenscometer.

 

Product: Refractor

Q: How often should I have the unit serviced?
A: Every 1 to 2 years, Check the occulder from the patients side for how much build up. Use of the face shields with the lenses will greatly decrease the frequency.

Q: The lenses fog up easily
A: Apply a no fog product to the faceshield.

Q: The rotation lock will not and it is wobbily
A: A timely repair is suggested, must send in to be serviced.

 

Service: Loaners

Q: Do you have loaner instruments?
A: We only loan refractors, and it is on a first come basis.
We provide the instrument as a courtesy. Customers are required to handle all shipping costs. Shipping costs vary.

 

Service: Warranty Coverage

Q: What does my warranty cover?
A: All Woodlyn products are covered for one year parts and labor on manufacture defects only. Click Here to download our full warranty.

Q: Is there a warranty on service?
A: Yes, for 30 days on the original repair issue.

Q: I am selling my practice.  Can you help me value my Woodlyn equipment?
A: Woodlyn can help evaluate it, contact a Woodlyn Sales representative.

Q: I am thinking of buying a used piece of Woodlyn equipment.  Can you tell me how old it is?
A: Age is one value, physical condition is another.
Chairs 658 series  and Stands 148 series were made in 1984 ~ 90.
Chairs MN and MP were made in 1990 ~ 1999.
Stands SA were made in 1989 ~ 1991.
Stands SF were made 1991 ~ 2001.
Chairs V are made in 2000+.
Stands 2002 are made from 2001  and still in production.
Slit lamps with the hammer tone finish were made between 1984 and 1988.
Slit lamps s/ns 188 in '88.
189 in '89,   190 in '90,    191 in '91,   192 etc… until 204 in '04.
J is the series starting in '05 until present….numbers are now sequential.
Refractors s/ns 188 in '88.
189 in '89,   190 in '90,    191 in '91,   192 etc… until 204 in '04.
D is the series starting in '05 until present….numbers are now sequential.

Q: I purchased my Woodlyn equipment from another doctor.  How do I go about servicing?
A: Please contact our service department for advice.

Q: What is the turn-around time for service?
A: Woodlyn repairs instruments on a first come basis, the severity of previous jobs dictates starting time of future jobs. If a client does not have a loaner, then his moves to the front as clients with loaners are not without a instrument.

 

Automated Equipment: Slit Lamp Camera

Q: The pictures I am taking aren't the same as what I am seeing, am I doing something wrong?
A: No. There are adjustments that can be made to enhance the image. Please refer to our guide on adjusting the camera settings located HERE.

Q: When should I use the diffuser?
A: The diffuser will evenly illuminate the anterior segment, however it also drastically reduced the brightness of the video stream.  It is mainly used to get a full anterior segment photograph.

 

Automated Equipment: Canon CR-1 Mark II

Q: Why do I get black or white spots on all my pictures?
A: This is usually caused by dust particles residing on the CR-1's optics.  Please call Woodlyn Inc. for assistance on removing dust particles from your CR-1 without damaging the optics.

Q: My pictures are turning out too washed out or too dark, what should I do?
A: Please refer to the guide on proper camera settings for taking a Retinal Photo using the Canon CR-1 located HERE.
 
 

Automated Equipment: E300 Topographer

Q: How often should I re-calibrate my E300?
A: To achieve the highest level of accuracy, we recommend re-calibrating your E300 every 6 months or every time you relocate the instrument.  For a easy guide on how to calibrate your E300 click HERE.

Q: My computer freezes occasionally during an exam, what should I do?
A: Make sure you PC meets the basic requirements of the software.  A graphics card with 256mb dedicated video memory is the minimum requirement for a PC operating an E300.  Also, ensure the PC meets the basic requirements of the Medmont Studio software.  For a list of these specifications, click HERE.

 

Automated Equipment: M700 Visual Field

Q: What do I do if I cannot see the fixation video stream?
A: Ensure the drivers for the M700 camera are properly installed.  For a guide on troubleshooting the video camera drivers, click HERE.

Q: The patient response wand isn't working, what should I do?
A: Ensure that the plug going into your M700 is inserted fully into the receptacle.  If it is inserted all the way, you may need to obtain a replacement wand. Please contact Woodlyn at 847-952-8330.

Q: How can I setup my software to work on multiple computers?

Q: Does DV2000 integrate with any EMR software programs?
